Your Personal Financial Planning Program
- Have you ever wondered what personal financial planning is?
- Do you feel that there must be more to managing your money than you've learnt at school?
- Do you think that there are financial solutions that you haven't heard about?
- Have you always wondered why some people are more successful at achieving their financial goals than others?

This is exactly how I felt when starting out in my career. After many years of studying, I finally got that first big job.
A job that paid me more than I actually needed. "Great!" I thought "I can now afford all the things I always wanted!"
However, after a couple of months all the excitement came crashing down when I realized what
a big spender I became.
Don't we all just spend what we earn?
I then started asking myself how I could become smarter at managing my lifestyle and spending my money. At that point in time, personal financial planning was in its infancy but luckily that's all changed since then.
It has become a large service area within the Financial Services industry and more and more Australians are enjoying
the benefits of using it as a guide through the financial maze and even to protect themselves from making the wrong money decisions.
Sometimes the term independent financial planning is used. This is merely a commercial term to denote that advisers do not belong to one financial group or company only. Instead they can draw on products and solutions from many different providers.
As easy as a holiday
Really, it is like planning a holiday. You need to research where you want to go, what to do and when to go. That stays the same with money matters. You research possible solutions to achieve your goals, how you want to achieve them through, e.g. savings and investments, and over what timeframe that should all happen.
It is also good to have a backup plan for days when not everything goes according to plan (your bad weather program).
Personal financial planning is the process of creating a personal financial plan:
It is the analyzing of your finances so that you can research, define and implement financial strategies and solutions that will help you with achieving your personal financial goals.
Like with many other important things in life, it is very important to plan for financial success. The focus is not on the resulting plan but on the process of getting there like Eisenhower once aptly put it:
"A plan is nothing; planning is everything." - D. Eisenhower
As financial planners, we assist everyday Australians by providing them with a structured plan that maps out the road to achieve financial independence and beyond.
Who is it suited for?
It doesn't matter what age you are or what job you have. Everyone can draw on the benefits of having a financial plan.
You may want to know your options as a single income earner just starting out. Someone else wants to know how to go about retirement.
Personal financial planning
is very individual and depends on your specific:
- personal circumstances,
- goals; and
- needs.
For example, a financial plan for a single person will look completely different to a plan for a pre-retirement couple.
The importance of financial planning can be immense. It lays the foundation for making informed decisions about your personal money matters.
For example: "Do I buy that house now or later? What are the advantages and disadvantages in my situation?".
